AI is increasingly being used in the legal sector, but as adoption grows, so do the mistakes. We’re already seeing where things go off track: over-reliance, blind trust and a worrying tendency to treat AI like it knows what it’s doing 100% of the time. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t. AI is powerful, but it isn’t infallible, and it doesn’t replace professional judgement. While we all know the growing sentiment is to “use AI as a tool, not a shortcut”, we’re here to provide some actionable tips about how you can strike the balance. Used well, it can make you more productive and provide new opportunities. Used poorly, it can introduce risk, eradicate the hard-earned trust you’ve built with your clients over the years and ultimately, create more problems than it solves.

Most firms either underuse AI – or use it in completely the wrong places. Done right, AI is brilliant at structured, repeatable, low-risk tasks. Think of it as your very fast, very capable (but slightly unreliable) junior assistant.
AI isn’t just about doing things faster. It can be the key to helping your firm use its time better, and subsequently, show up better in front of current and prospective clients.
Most legal teams are still bogged down in low-value, process-heavy work; admin, document handling, and pulling information together. Necessary? Absolutely. Billable? Not always.
If used properly, AI can remove that friction from the day-to-day. Admin becomes lighter, processes speed up, and information can be captured and structured before a client even speaks to you. That’s not just operational efficiency, it’s the first step in improving how your firm appears in search and online research.
